Smooth sailing would not be a term used to describe Shine Fights' recent history.

Nearly three months after the promotion's latest pay-per-view event was canceled, a firestorm of controversy has followed its latest effort, "Shine Fights: Lightweight Grand Prix," a pay-per-view event scheduled to take place tonight at the First Council Casino in Newkirk, Okla.

But despite widespread concern about the event's legitimacy, the fighters competing in the grand prix are ready to go, and a Shine executive said everyone will be in good hands.


The UFC's traditional pre-event preview show returns Sept. 20 with the debut of "Countdown to UFC 119: Mir vs. Cro Cop."

The one-hour special debuts at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV and spotlights the UFC 119 headliner between former heavyweight champ Frank Mir and fellow contender Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.

Replays air Sept. 24 (1 a.m. ET/PT) and Sept. 25 (1 p.m. ET/PT) on Spike TV.


Tonight at The Fight Club's latest event, former Canadian Football League player Rio Wells looks to extend his undefeated MMA run.

Although 36 years old, the welterweight fighter nevertheless is a promising MMA prospect - one who no longer relies simply on the raw athleticism and strength that proved so beneficial in football.

But how did Wells end up in MMA? For the past two decades, he's taken to heart some advice his high-school football coach gave him: Go see the world and experience new things.
